Most companies worldwide must shift their focus on improving their working practices to increase injury reduction rates in their workplace. This is evidenced by the most recent HSE statistics from 2019 to 2020, which show that out of 111 deaths at work in the UK, 29 were caused by falls from various heights.
With this in mind, we’ve once again successfully collaborated with Heller Machine Tools UK, by which we were approached a little while ago with a request to help.
Who is Heller Machine Tools UK

Additionally, they provide complex turnkey solutions, projects and services. Heller is a global brand with over 125 years of experience in their field, and their UK plant has been producing machines and services for over 40 years.
Heller Machine Tools has the ideal knowledge transfer, enabling them to ensure that the skills required to deliver their products are always at hand, and their customer base is very diverse. They have loyal customers in every continent and country, coming from the most demanding industries, such as Aerospace, Automotive, Earth Moving Equipment, Mould and Die, Medical, Oil and Gas, to name a few.
What is CHAMP?
Heller has been purchasing a cantilevered mobile platform, known as the CHAMP. For reference, CHAMP is an acronym for Cantilever Height Adjustable Mobile Platform, and it is a great product manufactured in the UK by Ability.
The CHAMP is designed to be a mobile platform enabling an operator to work over an assembly to allow a safe operating procedure at all times. It is based on an entirely new concept as it is effortless to use and can be wheeled from one position to another very quickly. The CHAMP is manufactured from sturdy aluminium alloy with a durable steel base filled with a series of counter-weights mounted on lockable directional casters. However, despite its efficiency, when it came in combination with the floor surface at Heller, it resulted in an assembly proving very difficult to move around.
How MotorMover helped Heller Machine Tools
MotorMover has worked with Heller for several years now, and they are well versed with our capabilities, having several of our MotorMover products at their premises in the UK.
Heller approached us to see if it was possible to re-work the CHAMP to provide a motorised version. The result? This is precisely what we did! Using our extensive skills and knowledge, we have developed the MotorMover CHAMP to find a solution to the movement of the CHAMP under challenging situations for Heller.
We have added a powerful traction motor, maintenance-free batteries and a tiller to allow the operator to move the MotorMover CHAMP around when not on the ladder. Since developing the first unit, we have supplied Heller with more, and we are now working with Ability to offer this as a core product solution for them.
